Forgive

When the weight of anger becomes too much to bare,
And carefully constructed defenses begin to collapse

When the spell of self-preoccupation is broken,
And knots around the heart begin to unravel

When a white flag is reluctantly flown,
And an olive branch is extended in turn

When bids once ignored are now latched onto like a lifeline,
And the thought of what could have been lost becomes painfully clear

A silent prayer of gratitude is spoken.

For they did not have to wait, but they patiently did
An amnesty not deserved but granted once more.
